CESSI Fellowship Opportunity for Summer 2024

Exciting news for students and professionals interested in Central Eurasian languages and cultures! The University of Wisconsin-Madison is now accepting applications for Title VIII Fellowships to support this year’s Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (CESSI). The program will run from June 17 to August 9, 2024, in Madison, Wisconsin.

This fellowship is available to U.S. citizens who are graduate students (including those starting this fall), recent graduates, and professionals. It offers a great deal: full tuition coverage plus a summer stipend of $2,870. This is an excellent chance for incoming MA and PhD students to boost their language skills in Kazakh, Tajik, and Uyghur before starting their fieldwork.

CESSI is an eight-week intensive language course where students can achieve a full year’s worth of language learning and earn eight academic credits. In addition to language classes, the program includes lectures on Central Eurasia, cultural events, opportunities to connect with local Central Eurasian communities, and networking with other scholars.

The deadline to apply for the fellowship is April 24, 2024. For more information about CESSI or to apply, visit cessi.wisc.edu or get in touch at cessi@creeca.wisc.edu.

If you’re interested in deepening your understanding of Central Eurasian studies, this could be the perfect summer opportunity for you!
