CESS Highlights the RUTA Association 2024 Conference Opportunity

The Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS) brings to its members’ attention an essential academic event organized by the RUTA Association. The association’s 2024 annual conference, titled “RE(KN)OWN: REGION(S) FROM WITHIN,” is set to take place in the Carpathian Mountains, Ukraine, from June 27-30, 2024. This conference marks an exceptional platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to engage in a multifaceted dialogue about the regions encompassing Central, South-Eastern, Eastern Europe, the Baltic, Caucasus, Central and Northern Asia.

Conference Overview

RUTA’s conference emerges in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, aiming to foster a comprehensive discussion on the sociohistorical complexities of the affected regions. The event encourages contributions that challenge conventional perspectives, with a particular interest in transnational and comparative approaches that place these regions within global contexts.

Participation and Topics

The association seeks proposals across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including but not limited to the humanities, social sciences, area studies, and interdisciplinary fields. The conference theme invites exploration into the creation, strengthening, and sustainability of academic and community networks, addressing regional epistemic challenges, and the advancement of non-extractive research methodologies.
